Students who choose to study at Menzies Institute of Technology will have the pleasure of learning in a safe, friendly and relaxing environment in and around the buzzing city of Melbourne, where public transport, shopping, entertainment, cafés and restaurants are within easy walking distance. Some of the famous Melbourne landmarks that are a short walk or tram ride from our campuses include Victoria Market, Federation Square and the Yarra River. There are also a host of museums and galleries as well as the annual calendar of festivals which Melbourne is famous for.

Life in Melbourne
Victoria’s stylish capital, Melbourne, has often been called “the world’s most liveable city”. With a warm climate in summer and mild winters, Melbournians can participate in outdoor activities all year round. With affordable accommodation, a very friendly, multi-cultural population, caring social services, excellent restaurants and breathtaking scenery, Melbourne is truly an amazing place to live, study and work.

There are also many prestigious world events that occur throughout the year. Events such as:
– Australian Open Tennis
– Formula One Australian Grand Prix
– Melbourne International Arts Festival
– Melbourne Food & Wine Expo

You can feel the excitement of these events when you are in Melbourne. All these and numerous local festivals, sporting and cultural events are accessible to everyone.

Living Costs in Melbourne
International students need to meet their living expenses while studying in Australia. International students generally will need AUD$15,000 – AUD$18,000 per year to meet their living expenses. Students with an adult dependant will need an extra AUD$4,000 – AUD$6,000 while students with dependent children should budget an additional AUD$3,000 – AUD$5,000 per child per year.

These living cost estimates are based on 2 people sharing an unfurnished two bedroom apartment, flat or house. They are not inclusive of tuition fees.

Accommodation
Menzies is happy to help students arrange their initial accommodation in Melbourne. We recommend Homestay Accommodation. You will be living with an Australian family and it is a fantastic way to adjust to life in Melbourne. You will have your private single room with a bed, desk, bed linen and towels.
